FRIDAY FOLLOW #119 - STEPPING OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE READING

If you are new to the #FF fun, Feature & Follow Friday is a blog hop that expands your blog following by a joint effort between bloggers. Feature & Follow Friday is now hosted by TWO hosts, myself, Parajunkee's View of course and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it’ll allow us to show off more new blogs!

Features this week are: Book Liason & Kinxs Book Nook!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "Hi!" in their comments. You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

This week's question :
When you step out of your USUAL genre what do you like to read? Best books in that genre?

Answer : I usually read Romance, the hot kind mostly so when I do branch out from Romance I tend to go for Autobiographies. Out of Bios ( or dramatization of bios ) my favorite is  Margaret George's  books "The Memoirs of Cleopatra" and her medieval "Authobiographies" of powerful Queens and women like: Helen of Troy, Queen Elizabeth I, Mary Queen of Scots and even King Henry VIII. Here is a small excerpt from "Mary, Called Magdalene" :

"She was carried to a place she had never been. It was much more vivid than a dream, it had a depth and a color to it, and exquisite detail that made it seem more real than the time with her mother in the courtyard, more real than the dreamy hours she spent sometimes looking out at the great lake of Magdala, the one so grand they called it a sea: the Sea of Galilee.
She was elevated, put on a high pillar or a platform, she could not tell which. And all around her were people, gathering at the base of it, looking up at her. She turned her head to the side and saw that other pillars had other people on them, that there was a whole row of them, stretching as far as she could see. The sky was a yellowish color, the color she had only seen once, when there was a sandstorm. The sun was blotted out, but there was still light, diffuse golden light.
Then someone came to her-were they flying, was it an angel, how did they get there?-and took her hand and said, “Will you come? Will you come with us?”
She felt the hand holding hers, and it was smooth like a piece of marble, not cold, not hot, not sweaty, but perfect. She wanted to squeeze it but dared not.
             “Yes,” she finally said.
And then the figure-she still did not know who it was, she dared not look at the face, only at the feet in golden sandals-lifted her up and took her away, and the journey was so dizzying that she lost her balance and began to fall, to plummet, and it was very dark beneath her.
She sat up with a jolt. The oil lamp had burned out. Outside she could hear the gentle sound of the water of the great lake, not far from her window, as it lapped the shore.
She held out her hand, felt it. It was moist. Was that why the being had let her go, had dropped it? She rubbed it hard.
No, let me cleanse my hand! she cried out, silently. Don’t abandon me! I can wipe it off!
             “Come back,” she whispered.
But the only answer was the stillness of the room and the sound of the water."

FRIDAY FOLLOW!

"What is one thing you wish you could tell your favorite author?"

Dear Lisa Kleypas / Jeaniene Frost / Eve Langlais,

I absolutely love your books and they so help me escape grim reality for a while and get all fluffed up in a world where you don't need to worry about groceries or work! ;)

Thanks! Love ya!
Niina

( have to keep it short today, of to run to work --  sigh! ;) )

FRIDAY FOLLOW! WHERE DO YOU READ? (PHOTO)

This week's question : "Activity!!! Take a picture or describe where you love to read the most…"

"If you are new to the #FF fun, Feature & Follow Friday is a blog hop that expands your blog following by a joint effort between bloggers. Feature & Follow Friday is now hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee's View and Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it’ll allow us to show off more new blogs! Features this week are: Oh, For The Love of Books! & Ezine of a Random Girl!"

This week's answer : Fun! * goes to snap a photo *

Here it is! My reading nook in the living room! The walls are a broken light green color ( I know it doesn't show in the photo, but they are a lovely color ), go very well with the light green decorational pillows, which I freely use to prop up books or the Kindle! When one reads for hours on end one's arms can tire. ;) The three seater couch is nice and soft but firm at the same time so perfect for a reader's behind. ;) Also Spidy is there to make sure no real spidies cross his turf ( keeping me spider free! ). And of course B&W blankie for horridly cold Finland winter evenings. The coffee table is close by too to set down some herbal/flower tea or a glass of red wine, depending on the book. ;D

I'm currently reading the 4th Wallflowers book by Lisa Kleypas "Scandal in Spring" and Ellora's Cave Taboo novel "Impact" by Cassandra Carr for a review.

This was so much fun! I wanna visit everyone this Friday!

Where do you read? Leave a link in the comments so I can come check your digs out. ;D

Visit more people this Friday!

FRIDAY FOLLOW!

This Weeks Question : "What would your prefer : reading your favorite book over and over again until you got sick of it OR reading 100s of mediocre books? And why?"

Features this week are: Book Chow Down & Goldilocks and the Three Weres!"

Answer : Good guestion! First instinct is to say reading my fave until I'm sick of it, because then after I'm done with it I can move to other good books and don't have to settle for mediocres... is that cheating? LOL! I think after I've run that particular horse down there's always a new one to be discovered. :) I'm an optimist. So Read Till Sick is my answer!

Don't miss these great Giveaways while you are here!

FRIDAY FOLLOW & TGIF! / THE CRAZIES

This Weeks Question : "What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done to get your hands on any particular book?"

Features this week are: Pretty in Fiction & Butterfly-o-meter!"

Answer : I'm not particularly crazy person, so I really don't think I've done anything crazy. I've taken part in some creative giveaways, ordered books from 10.000 miles away, does that count? Probably not.

Me and book just get along no crazies needed - we have an understanding. ;D Now if you would have asked about Pro Bull Riding then I'm doing the craziest tomorrow morning, I'm waking up at 4.A.M to watch it streaming live from Portland ( only time I get to watch anything PBR is when it's live - so sucks for me but hey, I get to see some cowboys, action and it's a nice way to wake up. ;D )

{Recommend It: Which book from the last 10 you've read would you recommend to a friend?}

TGIF at GReads is a Friday Feature hosted by Ginger at GReadsBooks.com!

Well my friends don't really read the same genre as me so I'm going to have to say...

The Tortured Rake - which is a contemporary romance where a big time brooding and dangerous movie star and low time has sister is a supermodel issues costume designer have to escape the paparazzi to a paradise island because of misunderstanding and a hidden secret.

I bet my friends would love that. It was really good btw, I have a review coming up this weekend. I'm giving it 4.5 stars!

It's out on NetGalley if someone thinks they might wanna try it. :)

Hey, while you are here I got some Giveaways you might want to take look at!

"$20 Gift Bucks & Beneath The Starry Sky" e-book ~ Jan. 19th-21st
"The Cursed Clan: Callum", E-book Giveaway by Melissa Schroeder ~ Jan. 20th-29th

Features this week are: Book Den & Pawning Through Books!"

Answer : Oh boy, gonna go count now... does Kindle count?

Okay 17 Paperbacks - not too bad right. ;) And well... 59 e-books.. that bit more ahem... but still not too bad! Considering I've only been at this for 6 months. ;D

My new years resoluteion blog wise would be to keep my momentum going, still post daily, but I have decided to accept little less reviews and focus on book that I have been meaning to read. :)
Still lots of excerpts, guest blogs, interviews and occasional cover reveals! And connecting even more with my fellow bloggers!

First & Last: What was the first book you read in 2011 and the last you finished in 2011? How do you feel about these books?
Would you recommend them to other readers?

TGIF at GReads is a Friday Feature hosted by Ginger at GReadsBooks.com!

Now I really have to recall the first book I read this year... yikes, I wasn't book blogging then so give me a moment...  Oh I got it!
First
Haukka, minun rakkaani (Hawk, my love) by Kaari Utrio
1376. A love story set in the finnish middle ages where a young timid widow escapes her evil stepson and his plan to marry her to a sadistic german mercenery - as she runs away with her hunting hawk and her hawk's keeper she runs into Daniel a wealthy merchant who pulls her out of a frozen lake and warms her body with his, all night.
As he and his company of men return Blanca to her father Daniel has decided to marry her, but she she complitely humiliated by what happened when he fished her out of the icy water she rejects him. But he doesn't give up and follows her and seduces her - and finally manages to manipulate her to marry him for his help in a war. But she's still the same timid and kind woman and Daniel's sister in law is determined not to have the little chick in her house hold, forcing Blanca to either grow or die. And what will Daniel do when he feels his wife is shrinking away from him after he though they had finally begun to love ach other.
If you are finnish, you must read this it is awesome.
If you speak english there are english copies around but non currently at print so you'd have to reallt search for one but it would be worth it these are so good.

Last
Hunter by Gennita Low (Crossfire #2)
I'm reading this but most likely won'ty finish before Sunday 1st.
I really am enjoy this, it's fast pace the characters are very interesting the sexual tension cat and mouse game is fun while the frug and sex slave trafficking is creepy as hell and make me nauseuous.

Very good book, recommend it and can't wait to read more of Gennita Low's Crossfire series!

It's Friday everyone! Have a great week!

FRIDAY FOLLOW - WHERE DO BOOKS GO?

This weeks question : When you’ve read a book, what do you do with it? ( Keep it, give it away, donate it, sell it, swap it..? )

Features this week are: Books Are Vital! & Once Upon A Time!

Answer : Okay, I am going to be honest. When I'm done with a book I most certainly keep it, unless it's one I truly could not finish and then I'll give it away as I imagine someone else would enjoy it.

I have so many books from past almost thirty years now, that to make room for my new books I've had to actually donate some older books to the Library's Swap shelf.

I've never actually swapped (sp?) books, I live in Finland and imagine sending books outside Finland wouldn't be worth the bucks. But I'd like to do it if I found a finnish website, or something, for it. ;)

But the best are so KEPT, I will never let go of my favourites, until I am dead ofcourse, and then I'll have them donated to where ever they are needed. :) But I just love seeing them on my bookshelf too much. Full Bookshelf is Love.

Most Popular: What blog post has gotten the most comments/activity on your blog this year?

TGIF at GReads is a Friday Feature hosted by Ginger at GReadsBooks.com!

My first TGIF!

My most popular entries seem to be... Bring On The Bad Boys, How To Marry A Finnish Girl, A Sexy Alpha Hero and Lover Unbound! Bring on the bad boys has the highest view count with over 500 views. ;) Now, why is that?

It's Friday everyone! Have a great week!
There are still five Giveaways running right now!

Another Chance (Cowboy/Old West/Romance) Closes this evening!
300 Follower Giveaway! (Followers Only)
Any Color But Beige (Chick-Lit Memoir)
Any Color But Beige Book Club Swag Package! Closes on the evening of Dec18th!

This week's question :
"Keeping with the Spirit of Giving this season, what book do you think EVERYONE should read and if you could, you would buy it for all of your family and friends?"

Answer :
I don't really have an answer to this, because what I like might not be the greatest thing to others - so I really don't wish to give useless gifts. ;)
That said I can give few great recommendations! If you like History get "Memoires of Cleopatra", if you like erotic Urban Fantasy go with "Dark Lover" and if you like Romantic Contemporary Fantasy go with "North of Need" these are all 5 star books to me, that I think everyone should give a go! ;)

Happy Friday everyone! Now what would you answer? Come on, share!

Also I visited Budapest, Hungary last weekend and some, come see the pics here, it was gorgeous!

Don't miss  The Cowboy and The Vampire Weekend! On right now!

This week's question :
"What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to books? Maybe you don’t like love triangles or thin plots? Tell us about it!"
Answer :

Alright, without going too negative, as weekend is coming, I'm going attempt to take this lightly. ;)

I'm currently reading, about finishing, a book that has Underlining with some words, and that seems to really break me from concentrating on the story. What else? Oh, I don't like Unsolved Issues, you know when the character does something in the middle of the book and you go 'oh, what was that', and then it's never resolved. What else? I really really dislike animals dying, that's just unnessecery, and it brings out the little sad peta-girl in me. ;) But, okay, what bothers me the most are dumb characters, that's a deal breaker, if the character doesn't work then the book gets shut, as simple as that.

Oh, and don't miss in taking part in The Cowboy and The Vampire Weekend! With a 5 Star Review, Guest Blog "Cowboy or Vampire?", Co-Author Interview and Signed Copy Giveaway coming this weekend you want to take part, drop by, comment and generally *squee* if you're into Cowboys or Vampires, or hey, both!

What about you, what are your biggest book pet peeves?
Really, spill it, I want to know!?

This weeks question :
In light of 11.11.11 and Veteran’s Day
tell us about your favorite soldier and how he
or she is saving the world. Fictional or real life.

My grandpa is on the right
Answer : Let's see, this will have to be real life not fictional for me... I'd have to say my grandpa. Finland is very neautral and the last time we were at war was the Winter War and Continuation War, both against Russia during World War II.

"Acts of war between the two countries started on 22 June 1941, the day Germany launched its invasion of the Soviet Union. Open warfare started with a Soviet air offensive on 25 June.
The Soviet air forces bombed Helsinki and other major Finnish cities. Eventually the Soviet strategic offensive in the summer of 1944 drove the Finns from most of the territories they had gained during the war but the Finnish Army later fought it to a standstill in July 1944. Cease-fire ended the hostilities on 5 September and Moscow Armistice officially ending the hostilities was signed in 19 September. The Paris peace treaty concluded the war formally in 1947. Finland ceded Petsamo and rented Porkkala to the Soviet Union, and paid reparations of $300,000,000 equaling half of its annual gross domestic product in 1939, while Finland retained its independence." ~from Wikipedia

My grandpa has told a lot stories from the war time and when he was in the russian border though he never talks about anyone getting shot or dying, he always made sure to tell the more amusing tales, of horses and mishaps.

My grandpa is 85 now, and Finland is at peace with everyone, and Martti Ahtisaari ( former president ) won the Nobel Peace Prize, but even my generation (born -82) is still skeptical about Russia, knowing it's not impossible that they make a move of somesort and threaten our independence. If you like Underdog stories you should read of the Winter War.

If you can watch the first 5:30 minutes of the video the get the gist of it ( they practically came with enough manpower to squash us, 2 million vs. 300 000, and thought that by showing up we would coward and give up... just like David did against Goliath. ;) We were able to defend ourselves because of the record coldest winter, -50'C/-58'F luckily we were use to of the cold and they were not. And because of the fact that we had snow camo and skis, the russian stuck out in their uniforms like sore thumbs ).
