"Oh boy, Seph was bit of a sensory overload to put it mildly! Usually blond guys don't do it for me but... man, Seph sure did! Tall, sexy, predatory, suggestive, muscled, hot, handsome, playboy stud muffin of a half-demon... I'm running out of sexy synonyms with this one! Let's face it ladies we like a bad boy, and reformed super bad boy...? Hell yeah!"

"Jillian Cardiff came to this remote mountain town to forget the demon attack that almost killed her. Instead, she rescues-and falls for-a gorgeous stranger who has no memory of anything other than his name. Handsome, charming, and protective, Reseph seems like the kind of man whom Jillian can trust. But with hints of a troubling history of his own, he's also the kind of man who can be very dangerous . . .

Reseph may not know why he mysteriously appeared in Jillian's life, but he knows he wants to stay. Yet when Jillian's neighbors are killed, and demon hunters arrive on the scene, Reseph fears that he's putting Jillian in danger. And once it's revealed that Reseph is also Pestilence, the Horseman responsible for ravaging the world, he and Jillian must face the greatest challenge of all: Can they forget the horrors of a chilling past to save the future they both desire?"  ~ From Goodreads

Sometimes you know from the very beginning that you're going to love a book, and Rogue Rider started so great I was pumped to read every single bit of this book! Here you have a look too of Seph naked in the woods:

It was cold. So fucking cold.

He opened his eyes, but he saw…nothing. Groaning, he shifted, because he seemed to be face-down. Yeah…he was doing a face-plant, all right. But where was he? All he could see was snow. No, that wasn't true; he could see trees laden with snow. And snow banks laden with snow. And snow laden with more fucking snow.

So he was in a forest…with snow. But where? Why?

And who the hell was he?

       Reseph.

The name slurred through his ears as if uttered by a drunk man.

       Reseph.

Sounded vaguely familiar, he supposed. Reseph. Okay, he could work with that. Especially since no other names popped into his head.

Weakly, he tried to push himself to his knees, but his arms wobbled like rubber, and he kept falling on his face. After four tries, he gave up and just lay there, panting and shivering.

Somewhere overhead, an owl hooted, and a few minutes later, a wolf howled into the growing darkness. Reseph took comfort in the sounds, because they meant he wasn't alone. Sure, the owl might fly over and shit on him, and the wolf might eat him alive, but at least he’d have company for a little while.

He didn't know much about himself, but he knew he didn't like to be alone.

He also did not like snow.

Curious then, how he’d ended up alone in the snow. Had someone abandoned him here? A tremor of anxiety shook his insides as hard as the cold was shaking him on the outside. Surely someone was looking for him.

He held onto that hope as he gradually became aware of a gnawing ache in his bones, accompanied by a stabbing pain in his head. Looked like he was in for a little unconsciousness. Cool. Because right now, he was both freezing and burning up, hurting and numb. It sucked.

Yep, passing out would be a good thing.

       Real. Fucking. Good.

Are you as giddy as I was to sink my teeth into more!? Not to mention... oh,ahem, better not go there... * clears throat * So, as mentioned above I was psyched to read all of this! I hadn't read the first three books in the series but that didn't deter me in any way, it was so good! And I think the amnesia plot helped as well. Both me and Seph were clueless of what was going on in the world and with him and his evil demon side.

Oh boy, Seph was bit of a sensory overload to put it mildly! Hell yeah! Sure there is mega load of package with the dude but he sure makes it up in bed. Okay so by now you know I'm totally crushing on Reseph... I won't try to hide it, just never mind the cardboard cut-out in my closet. What was that? What closet?

The romance with Jillian and Reseph had the sweetness of a new start, redemption and peace for Seph who's demon had been causing near Apocalyptic destruction before his memory wipe. But to balance that out it was incredibly hot and sexy the way these two had chemistry! Also Jillian was an absolutely joy to read, smart, confident and putting breaks on Seph's advances. Very entertaining!

I always find it hard to review my absolutely favorites as I just wanna gush how great it was, how hot the guy, how sassy the girl and how hot the romance! Rogue Rider got all of that and more. Enough of me loving this book and more of me moving my ass to find the previous three books!

DEMON UNTAMED (GIVEAWAY)

Demon Untamed takes readers on a sensual journey that weaves through the first three books in the Shadow Quest series.

"Struggling to survive in an unforgiving universe, Ethan has sacrificed his life in pursuit of a single goal: Follow his king’s orders and save their people from the ravenous Kayadon overlords.  For so long, he’s maintained his title and dark reputation as a notorious pirate to put into motion his king’s intricate plot. He thought of nothing else…until he met her - the fiery demon who tempts him like no other.

After witnessing her father’s brutal murder by the hand of pirates, Sonya has developed a special kind of hatred for their kind. When Ethan, otherwise known as the Pirate King, boards her ship and invades her space with his encompassing presence, she finds herself fighting to keep her distance. Yet she wonders if she even wants to - when he threatens to seduce her mind, body, soul…and most frightening of all, her heart."

Free Sample: Chapter 1 - 3

Sonya stood to face him. His expression displayed a mix of irritation and amusement. “I know the concept of a hard day’s work is difficult for you to understand, pirate, and you’re functioning on a damaged moral compass—”

“My moral compass may be damaged, but at least I’m not a slave to my baser needs.”

She stilled. “And you’re saying I am.”

“You are a demon after all. Your kind are notorious for their debauchee and barbarous natures.”

She choked out a laugh, “My people are barbarous?”

       “You said it.”

“And this coming from a pirate.”

“You know nothing of it!” he snapped.

“And you know nothing of me!”

“I know more than you think. And even if I didn't  I had you pegged purely by the manner in which you dress yourself.”

That gave her pause and she resisted the urge to look down at herself. Her outfit was no more revealing than any other female on the ship. In fact, compared to some, she could be considered downright modest. Her skirts, she had to admit, were on the short side, but that was only to accommodate her tail, and nobody had ever commented on it before. Not that it mattered what anyone else thought of her, especially not some hypocritical pirate.

“Get out of my pub before I smash your face into the wall,” she hissed.

Instead, he took a step closer, goading her. Something in that action fired her blood in a way she’d never felt, and the pace of her heart increased with a surge of excitement. Sonya was used to people backing down when she issued a threat, they never willingly opened themselves up for attack.

She tilted her head at him with renewed interest.

Some Like it Wicked was wicked hot notch on Stacey Kennedy's belt! How she manages to create flirty, passionate characters with fun side as well as the steamy and dark, I don't know, but I keep reading them! Bryanna and Zeke are steaming it up from the beginning and it only gets better and better ( I mean who doesn't love the ex comes knocking jealousy twister ;) )!

I loved how instantly attracted Zeke was to Bryanna and how being as hot and hunky as he was he still wanted to help her discover the full extent of her earth witch powers, a good guy in wickedly hot demon's body. ;) Bryanna's ex's return though has our devilishly handsome demon fearing the worst, but secretly hoping she'll see what they can be together. Bryanna was cute, her lack of trust in her abilities made her endearing, she was funny doing her magic which results varied to put it mildly. Loved her.

Of course the romance is scorching hot! All the desire, lust and passion are sure sizzle your e-reader, for that alone give this a shot. Ms. Kennedy never disappoints, I've come to realize this and am advocating her swift rise to the upper-crust of erotic paranormal romance authors! Like right now.

A thump, followed by a ga-jug, echoed within the Volkswagen Rabbit, then the car rolled to a halt on the side of the gravel road.
“Oh Blessed Be, this cannot be happening.” Bryanna turned the ignition key and it clicked. She tried again, but she didn't hear a spark of the engine igniting or a purr from the muffler, she only heard silence.
Dropping her head against her hands resting on the steering wheel, she shrieked in frustration and her throat tightened. But when tears filled her eyes, she straightened up. “No, you will not cry.” Cursing the now-dead piece of junk, she opened the car door, grabbed her handbag from the passenger seat and kicked the car’s silver door shut behind her.
Before the dash-unit GPS crapped out on her, it had indicated she had arrived in the West Feliciana Parish of Louisiana. Now she stood atop a narrow ridge overlooking a river below with blue sky and white clouds above.
The beautiful sight didn't match her wretched mood. She should enjoy the rich, earthy scents around her, feel rejuvenated to have left the busy city of Shreveport behind and bask in the gloriousness of the nature around her. That was, if she was a good Earth Witch, which sadly, she wasn't  In fact, her magical abilities were embarrassing at best. But those kinds of chastising thoughts weren't important anymore. Nothing mattered. Least of all what she could or couldn't do with her magic.
She strode forward and her long black satin skirt dragged along the ground, making her grumble. The gravel road was slightly damp and the big clouds meant a storm had recently blown through, which only added to the strong scents around her. Rich moss thrived on the forest floors to her right. Birds chirped in welcome, but she didn't know to where.
Not as if that mattered either. The only thing that did concern her was never turning back and always moving forward. Her life needed to change, which included getting her ex-boyfriend, Layton Brimley, completely out of it.
A man built of romantic dreams—beautiful on the outside, blue-eyed, blond-haired and sexy as sin. But the pretty packaging was deceptive; his soul was tainted with darkness. He was the reason she’d been on the road for four hours now and why she’d never go back to the Shreveport coven.
Above her, a bird squawked and Bryanna raised her hand to protect her eyes, watching the hawk soaring on a thermal. She sighed. If only she was that hawk and Layton was a little mouse she could rip to pieces. It’d be the sweetest revenge.
She focused back on the road and increased her speed. On her third step, her boot caught a stone, causing her to stumble forward. With a yelp, she nosedived toward a puddle and scraped her hands against the rough stones. The dirty water soaked her clothing, plastering her skirt to her skin.
“Oh for the love of magic.” She pushed herself up, wiped her injured hands on her wet skirt and took a cautious step forward, but wobbled. When she glanced down, she noticed the heel of her boot had broken off.
        Drat!
Things that had been bad so far were only getting worse with each passing hour. She’d need four sets of hands to count all the mishaps she’d encountered along the way. Limping forward, she continued on, determined to get to…well, she hadn't figured that out yet.
As the hawk above her squawked again, she also heard a car approaching from behind and drawing closer with each limp she took. Refusing to look back at the car in fear of embarrassing herself further, she stared at the gravel road when a thump caught her attention. The car’s tire had clearly hit another hole in the road, since when she turned, a splash came barreling toward her.
If she were a normal Earth Witch, she could conjure magic to stop the dirty water from hitting her. Sadly, she was anything but normal. Instead, she braced herself, shut her eyes and waited for the deluge.
Only a second later, the frigid water hit her dead center, as expected.
When she opened her eyes, she discovered her violet-streaked long black hair dripping around her. Looking down at her black corset, she found it completely soaked and dirt particles marred her flesh.
“That’s it!” she shrieked to the sky above. “ I've had enough!”
“You can either get in or stay wet. Your choice.”
At the low, velvety voice, Bryanna jerked her head toward the car, looking at back door of the black
Dodge Challenger, which was open. Get in the car with a stranger? Or stay in these soaked clothes, with a broken heel on my boot?
The right decision was glaringly obvious.
With her continuing limp, Bryanna approached the car, then settled into the backseat. “Thank you for stopping.” As she leaned against the back of the seat, she noticed she was dripping dirty water along the expensive black leather. “Perhaps this was a bad idea. I’m ruining your seat.”
“It’s only a car,” the driver stated.
Glancing up from her soaked clothes, Bryanna examined her savior. He stared out the front windshield, but then looked at her in the rearview mirror, and she sucked in a harsh breath. It wasn't his appearance that worried her. His short dark-brown hair, the broad set of his shoulders and even his nicely defined arms filling his pale-blue T-shirt looked incredibly nice. But it was what lay in the depths of his coal-black eyes that terrified her.
        A demon.
“The name is Zeke.” He flashed a grin that, if she hadn't been frightened, might have been sexy. At her silence, he chuckled, put the car in gear and then drove down the road. “Surprised to see a demon?”
        She gulped, stunned speechless.
Demons were underworld creatures, stealers of souls and spawns of Satan. What kind of trouble had she landed herself in?
“Stop the car!” she shouted, blindly grasping for the door handle that seemed to have disappeared. She might have looked down to assist in her much needed escape, but that meant she would have to take her eyes off the demon, which she wouldn't dare do. “Let me out. Don’t eat my soul.”
Zeke barked a shout of laughter. “I might be a demon by right, but I have chosen a different life for myself. I won’t eat you.” His chuckling faded. “And I’ll even send a tow to get your car later. What’s your name?”
His reply knocked her off her axis and made her pause. Was what he suggested even possible? Could a demon deny his heritage? “Bryanna.” She managed to look away from him and noticed they approached a town. “Where are you taking me?”
        “Charmstone.”
Once he passed through the metal gates at the entrance, Bryanna spotted an old wooden sign that hung on a wrought iron stand. Charmstone was carved into the wood with Established in 1839 written below.
As the car traveled down the curvy paved road, shops of all kinds appeared. First, Duncan’s Dungeons, then Scaredy Cat Café and even Little Shop of Potions. The town had a historical feel, with aged stores that only built more character. It didn't look decrepit, but had an incredible charm. One of those places so memorable that if she left, she’d definitely return.
After Zeke rounded a corner, he brought the car to a stop. Dragging her gaze from the eclectic shops and the few shifters who walked along the street, she exited the car and stared down the street to her right.
She then looked to her left, totally mesmerized.
The shops were all huddled together with no sense of organization. They were nothing like she’d seen in Shreveport. It even smelled different here, almost like gingersnap cookies. Every shop appeared to be a little house and each had a different style that somehow made each one special.
“What a charming little town.” She glanced over her shoulder at Zeke and her mouth instantly went dry.
At some point, he had joined her and he was dark, dangerous, but gorgeous. He towered over her, staring down at her in a way that should have sent her running. Instead, she found herself captivated. Her breath caught in her throat as he gave a smile that was as devilish as his evil roots.
He regarded her a moment, giving her a once-over before curiosity filled his dark eyes. “If you’re a witch, why haven’t you,” he waved his hand over her, “changed your clothing?”
At the reminder of her magical flaws, her cheeks warmed. The spell he suggested was, in fact, the simplest of magic. She considered lying to save herself from the embarrassment, but why bother? A demon had no right to judge her. “Because I’m a terrible witch.”
One sleek eyebrow lifted. “How so?”
A breeze filled the air, causing leaves to flutter down from the tree above, making her slightly chilled in her wet clothes. “My powers are on the fritz. I can command the earth element, but when I do, something horrible happens.”
        His eyes twinkled. “Show me.”
“That’s not a good idea.” She scanned the area and while only a couple of warlocks stood by the café and a few werewolves across the street, this seemed dangerous. Turning back to Zeke, she admitted, “It’s best I don’t use my magic.”
He closed the distance between them, studying her from head to toe. “But you are a witch.”
To call her a witch was akin to calling a black cat white. “Yeah, that’s the problem. I’m only a half-witch.”
He snorted, folding his arms over a thick chest. “There’s no such thing as a half-witch.”
        “Wanna bet?” she countered.
The side of his mouth curved. “Go on.” He leaned against the wrought iron lamppost and waved her on, which flexed the muscles in his biceps. “I’m not worried. Show me.”
She cleared her throat, a little stuck on the sight of his flexing muscles, before she gave herself hell for looking at a demon that way. Focusing off him, as well as realizing he wouldn't relent until he saw her flaws for himself, she focused inward. “Don’t say I didn't warn you.”
He winked. “Little witch, you couldn't hurt me if you tried.” Pointing toward himself, he tilted his head.  "Demon, remember?”
        There was that.
Besides, even if she had perfect magic, she still couldn't injure him; exactly why witches feared demons. Although this demon wasn't typical, was he? With that thought on her mind, and not wanting to prolong the moment, she shut her eyes. Years had passed since she called to her element and she wasn't confident earth would respond.
Perhaps some of her agreement had been because it almost felt like the final act of defiance. Her magic had been wonky since birth and her ex, Layton, had been right—her spells only caused trouble. Now she was free of him and could conjure magic whenever she wanted. That was, when alone and not for anyone to witness her mishaps.
Warmth began to fill her veins, instantly reminding her of how intimately her magic touched her, bringing forth a world of guilt. Abandoning her element had been the hardest thing she’d ever done. But what else was she to do?
As a heat wave rushed over her body and settled into her chest, happiness spread through her equally as powerful. The earth element appeared as elated as she was to reconnect. When the breeze picked up and turned into a stronger wind, fluttering her hair, she concentrated on her clothes. She pictured each article of clothing in her mind and switched that piece of clothing with something new.
With a skirt and corset strong in her mind, the blast of heat in her veins burned wicked hot until it vanished and the wind returned to a gentle breeze.
Only a second passed before Zeke burst out laughing.
She snapped open her eyes, caught sight of him staring at the ground and then she followed his gaze. The moment she spotted the tiny round glass jar, she groaned. “See.”
“I do see.” He picked up the container, pulled out the cork and lowered his nose to the glass. “It smells like vanilla with a hint of almonds.” After he closed the jar again, he smiled at her. “Is it skin cream?”
“Sure is.” She lifted her chin, forcing herself to remember he was a demon and had no business judging her. “As I told you, my magic never comes out right and always gives me these thingamajigs.”
        “Thingamajigs?”
She gave a firm nod. “Yup, all kinds of weird whatnots.”
“Well, Bryanna.” He offered her the container with gentleness in his gaze that made no sense coming from a demon. “Must be incredible skin cream since your skin is beautiful.”
With burning cheeks, she accepted the jar, unsure if she should thank him or ignore him. She chose the latter, considering he was a demon, after all. Sure, a sexy demon with a wickedly charming smile, but nonetheless, a demon.
She deposited the cream in the garbage bin beside the lamppost and when the glass container clanged against the bottom of the metal garbage bin, she finally looked at Zeke. He stared at her intently and she became trapped in those same confusing eyes; so dangerous, yet tender.
When he chuckled, her attention drifted down to his curved lips, making her wonder what it’d be like to kiss a demon. Would he be gentle? Or would he be a devil between the sheets?
The second she realized it hadn't been a passing thought, but intense curiosity, she gave her head a hard shake for even going there.
        What was wrong with her?
“There’s a store close by that should suit you.” Zeke’s voice had deepened, his eyes glinting dangerously. “I’ll buy you whatever you need to replace your clothing.”
She bit back a curse, seeing he wasn't blind to her regard of him. Her most private thoughts always showed on her face. She had to work on not being such an open book. “I don’t need your money. That’s one thing I do have.”
In fact, money was the only thing she had, not that she’d tell a demon that. What she didn't have—what she longed for—was everything that truly mattered: love, acceptance and perfect magic.
She had lived without the important stuff for twenty-five years and she couldn't do it any longer. Those desires made her leave everything she knew behind in Shreveport in search of a new life.
And now here she was, in Charmstone with a demon.

DAMNED AND DEFIANT REVIEW & GUEST BLOG

What Makes Sci-Fi Romance Sexy?
By Kathy Kulig

People who are crazy enough to explore the far reaches of the universe, where unknown dangers lurk, cannot be wimps. Heroines in sci fi romances must be kick-butt and feisty, and the heroes, hunky-alpha types. Pretty much a given. When you throw these two types of characters in life-threatening, challenging situations on a planet, trapped inside a space ship, etc., they’re either going to kill each other or create an uneasy alliance. Either way, sparks are going to fly, and the journey is going to be a hot, sexy and volatile.
Since I was a kid, I was a huge sci fi fan. I watched all the old sci fi movies—the really old black and white ones—and read lots of sci fi and fantasy books. As I got older, I discovered romance books and fell in love with those. Soon after, the subgenres of sci-fi and paranormal romances came along and I was in heaven.
In outer space, when things go wrong, they go really, really wrong. A character can’t call 911 for help, or when food or shelter is scarce, head to the local Giant grocery store or Home Depot. Unusual alliances or crooked deals form. Survival of the fittest or with the most power and force wins and lives.
In my novella, Dragon Witch, http://amzn.to/Qxnxa7  black market trading is rampant and space ship captains ( even honest ones ) have to resort to mercenary acts in order to survive, even when they want to save colonists in danger. People adapt and find clever ways to survive. The heroine in this story has a secret which keeps her alive and accepted in her newly settled colony. In such high risk stakes, betrayal means survival and can make finding love impossible, or almost.
In Damned and Defiant, http://amzn.to/TejVGi demons from another planet must steal lifeforce energy from mortals in order to keep their alternative universe from self-destruction. What happens when a mortal woman falls in love with the immortal demon who is only on this world temporarily? Can he leave her? If he stays, his world will be destroyed.

Excerpt: Chapter 1

"Mortal women surrender to Dante’s seductions. He is a Drone, an immortal who feeds off their lifeforce energy—the chi that keeps his kind alive. When his dimension is on the edge of destruction, Dante must seek the help of one special woman.

Haley Moore is a Sha Warrior—a mortal with excess lifeforce energy. She has always had a strong attraction to Dante and when they meet again he thinks luck is on his side because his quota of chi energy would be obtained after one scorching scene with this mortal. But the problem is that he is overwhelmingly attracted to her and once with this woman won’t be enough.

Haley tries to draw out the man buried deep within the demon. Their fierce, undeniable passion unravels his plans and threatens her life. Can Dante bear to abandon her when he leaves Earth forever? Dante will have to choose whether to return to his world or to give up his immortality and share his future with Haley."  ~ From Goodreads

The story is interesting, and promises to be sexy. If I had known this was third book in the series I would have read the others before, but as it is the story wasn't a complete stand alone, parts of it didn't make sense to me.

Dante and Haley started off weird, it almost felt like abuse ( see I should have read the books before, had I been aware of the other books in the series ) which didn't make me happy in the beginning of the book - but as the book moved forward I got more into it and as I got to know Dante and Haley it got plenty better.

The romance was plenty hot, there was one way the couple got together well in. In my opinion paranormal romance needs to be hot, and Damned and Defiant sure was. Come on a alien species who lives of sexual energy? Has to be hot. ;)

In closing, read the books in order and you'll be giving this a higher review, I believe. This book is for you if you want something else than vampires and werewolves out of your paranormal romance!

( sorry for the short review everyone, life is hectic here plus the upcoming flu is draining all my energy )

"Zahra proves that sex demons do it better as she goes from captive to captivator.

Sex Demon Zahra Aniron is a closet romantic. Too bad she spends her time having hot, kinky sex with paying strangers. But she needs the money to pay off her sister's debt to wizard thugs. There could be worse things than getting paid for pleasure, especially since a sex demon needs climax to survive.

As a blacksmith, Lennox Aegros puts his fury to good use pounding steel into swords. When he arrives at a new town, his real cause for being there isn't to sell weaponry, it's for revenge. When he finds the succubus he's been searching for, her beauty means he can mix business with pleasure. But the joke's on Lennox, because as he succeeds in torturing his victim by repeatedly bringing her to the brink of orgasm and then denying her the release that she so desperately needs, he realizes that Zahra's slow demise means the breaking of a heart he didn't think he had." ~ From Goodreads

How to Celebrate Like an Erotica Author
by Jaye Shields

Hello there, readers! My name is Jaye and recently, the coolest thing happened. I received my first contract ever as an author. I knew this day would come eventually, but having it be for a book titled Confessions of a Sex Demon makes the whole adventure a bit…steamier.

So how does one celebrate when they receive a contract offer for their first erotic novella? Champagne and leopard panties.

I’m saving the Dom Perignon moment for my release party. Contracts call for Sophia Coppola and her festive, delicious bubbly. The pink wrap around the elegant bottle just screams, “She writes romance.” Every writer should treat themselves to a bottle of Sophia’s champagne.

My leopard "contract celebration" panties weren’t just any leopard panties. Of course, every writer, every woman owns at least one pair of those. Oh no. These were the kind of lacey, tacky, stringy leopard-print scraps that one couldn’t figure out how to put on if they tried. When my aunt ( a flight attendant ) got word of my contract, she went shopping during her layover for the perfect gift. Behold, a tiny stand in Bangkok just happened to be selling scandalous undies. The shopkeeper tried to explain to my aunt the inner workings of the tiny strings and how to fasten them. I may be an erotica author, but I have the sneaking suspicion that if I ever tried to unfasten said panty strings, the tiny scrap would never get pieced back together.

To all my fellow authors out there, what have you done to celebrate contracts? Anyone else get hot lingerie?

P.S. Don’t forget to buy Confessions of a Sex Demon, for without that steamy read, there would be no leopard-print thong!

             XOXO Jaye Shields

Born and raised in the grunge capitol, she took her love of music and poetry from the Pacific Northwest to California. Now she lives in Alameda, a quaint island town in the Bay Area.
With a degree in Anthropology-emphasis in Archaeology, she’s itching to climb some more pyramids. When she’s not writing, she’s either at her day-job or taking long walks along the Alameda beach and gazing at the outline of San Francisco in the distance. Oh yes, and her heart can generally be found in Paris...

Zahra woke to a sharp pinch against her skin. She tried to peel open her eyelids, but they were heavy stones. She wanted to touch her eyes, but her arms moved nowhere. Fear caused her lids to fly open only to realize that she was indeed strapped down.
The perpetrator smiled, but it was subtle. Very subtle. His tan skin was darker in the dim room. His blue irises appeared so light that his eyes became demonic charcoals glaring at her in the shadowy room. He finished strapping her foot down.
“Do you like your accommodations, demon?”
“You should have asked Bane for help decorating. He’s also very good at the dark, gloomy dungeon thing.” She’d hoped to sound feisty, but instead, her voice was nothing more than a pitiful rasp.
“Since you’re used to your mouth being filled, I’ll help you.” Lennox stood over her. She never took her eyes from his intense frown as he tied a scarf around her mouth. He pulled it tight enough to cut into the edges of her mouth. Zahra did her best to smash his fingers into the cold metal table she was strapped to. Unfortunately, the back of her head missed its mark and thunked hard against the steel.
At least she could still see what was taking place. Fear coursed through her. She barely knew this man and she couldn’t imagine what he had in store for her. She was a succubus, used to kinky requests, and most men knew they didn’t need to kidnap her for such a session. She watched Lennox’s tall form cross the mostly empty room. The only furniture was a small table. Probably where he kept his—
Scissors. Lennox turned toward her with a pair in his hand. As he walked in her direction, he looked entirely too innocent to be foreboding. His blond hair was a stark contrast against his tan skin. She’d felt his muscles earlier and they were those of an intense lover, not a fighter. Clearly this guy was tweaked. He was hot as hell and normally she liked freaky guys. If he hadn’t insulted her ever since they first met, they might’ve even had a chance. No charge.
Lennox stood between her legs and she could barely see him from her tight bondage against the table. The cold metal of the scissors slipped under her corset. As the fabric began falling away, the soft groan of the metal cutting through thick black fabric echoed in the empty room. Her tight top became looser with every passing second. Heat crept into her body. Good news: she had the feeling this guy could make her come. Hard. The bad news: she was kidnapped by a psychopath and no one knew where she was.
Maybe he’s a trap-and-set-free kind of psychopath. Love ’em and leave ’em.
“Your body betrays you. You crave your abductor, don’t you, succubus?”
She avoided his gaze by staring at the ceiling. Zahra could feel the heat from his intense appraisal of her body as he guided the shears across her pants. Apparently, he was leaving no clothes for her to try to escape in. It was becoming clearer by the moment that he had no plans for her to leave.

GUEST BLOG: DEAL WITH THE DEVIL?

"One of the top supermodels in the world, Angel, lives the life of the rich and fabulous, until a heinous car accident mars her face. After thirteen surgeries and losing everything she deemed important, she seeks out the dark forces to salvage her life.

Angel decides to conjure the Devil for help, making a deal to recover her beauty. In exchange for his help, Lucifer forces her to hunt supernatural renegades, which have eluded the pits of Hell.

In her quest to find beauty and get out of her contract with Lucifer, Angel stumbles upon love in the arms of a demon."

Let’s Make a Deal…with the Devil?
By Vivi Dumas

Wheeling and dealing with Satan dates back to the inception of mankind. Remember back to Adam and Eve and that pesky snake in the tree. Yep. That’s when it all started, the whispered challenge to take a bite of that oh so delicious forbidden fruit, the enticement of gaining knowledge from the all-knowing tree. Eve knew she was in trouble as soon as she took the bite. Then in the classic style of a woman, she found a friend to drag down the wrong path with her, because sinning is no fun alone. Adam, very much a man, followed blindly and tried to finger point his way out of it.

As you can see, my Sunday school teacher had her hands full with me.

We can’t have a conversation about deals with the ultimate evil without discussing Faust. This German Legend is the basis of so many of our modern day folktales, books, and movies. Faust, who was already a highly successful scholar,  makes a deal with the Devil to trade his soul for ultimate knowledge and then he threw in worldly pleasures, because what good is knowledge without a good time. Faust’s problem was truly greed. If you’re already successful, what pushes you to want more to the point you’re willing to give up your morality to get it? I wrote a whole paper on it, using Plato’s Allegory of the Cave as my underlying philosophy.

Philosophy class was a fun time for me. I also went to a very Catholic college. Father Dan taught all the philosophy and theology classes. We had wonderful dialogue in those classes. I apologize to the other students, who probably wished I would just shut up. Oh, by the way, I’m not Catholic so that made it just that much more fun.

My last example of dealing with the Devil awesomeness is the movie The Devil’s Advocate.  Al Pacino plays Satan like nobody’s business. Keanu Reeves is our Faust in this story. He’s a small town attorney given a shoot at a big time New York law firm. He gets a huge case. Then he comes to the apex of his journey. He finds out his client might be guilty. This is his chance to make the right decision and get out or continue on and be a participant in the deception. All kinds of other horror goodness ensue throughout the movie. I’ll let find out what happens on your own. I’ll leave you with the famous line from the movie.

“Better to reign in Hell, than serve in Heaven.”

Throughout my Dueling with the Devil series, you will find the hero and heroine have various reasons they enter or are forced into a deal with the Devil. In Soul Catcher, Angel Dias, stumbles upon an old family secret in a moment of desperation in her life. Before understanding what she was getting herself into, she finds herself face-to-face with Lucifer, locked in a no-win situation.

Is there anything you think is worth trading your soul or entering into a deal with the devil?

Vivi Dumas submerges herself in the dark underworld of the supernatural.

To balance the analytical and logical confines of her day job, she unleashes the fiery passions of her imagination in her writing.

BOOK SPOTLIGHT: THE DARK MAN'S SON (WITH A GIVEAWAY)

Title: The Dark Man's Son ( Guardian Chronicles, Part 1 )
Author: Meg Whitlock
Publisher: Self
Length: 385 pages
Genres: Historical Paranormal / Fantasy Fiction

AVAILABLE AT:

BLURB:
"She claimed the muggers were demons, but of course Jason didn’t believe her. At first.

When a mysterious woman appears in a dirty alley to rescue Jason Latimer from a pair of muggers, he tries to write her off as a garden variety lunatic. But he can’t shake the memory of her intense green eyes that seemed to flash gold, or the glowing sword she’d worn on her hip.

She calls herself Alex (no last name) like she’d made it up on the spot, and she offers Jason her protection. From what, she can’t or won’t say. He refuses, and that night he dreams of a dark man with the same offer. His black eyes flash blood and garnet, and he smells of burning things. Jason refuses him, too.

A chance meeting brings Alex and Jason together again, and she tells him of the Guardians: two immortal beings created near the beginning of time with the express purpose of fighting for mortal-kind’s soul. She is Light, and the man from Jason’s dream is Dark. Jason must choose, because Lucifer, for reasons purely his own, has unleashed the armies of Hell to hunt Jason down.

But there are things about Jason that not even he knows, and he’ll face hard truths and bitter choices as he struggles to find his place in a world redefined. Will he rise to the challenge, or, when the time comes, will he falter?

From Renaissance Florence to the French Revolution, from World War II to the modern streets of New Orleans, The Dark Man’s Son is a riveting journey filled with unforgettable characters, wry humor, dark twists, and a touch of romance."

Jason Latimer was a logical man. He lived in a concrete world with concrete parameters. The sun rose in the east, set in the west, and in between the two (on either side) demons did not walk. Crazy ninja chicks did not show up with swords (but wait: he must’ve imagined the sword after all, because he hadn’t seen it again after that first shaky glimpse) and wild stories to rescue you from muggers. Muggers, to address that point, did not have strange, distorted faces and voices that sucked all the air from the room.

Jason splashed cold water on his face and scrubbed at his cheeks with long-fingered hands. He stared at himself in the bathroom mirror. A stranger stared back at him through familiar midnight blue eyes. Dark stubble dusted his jaw. His nose was badly swollen. He made a note to get his unruly hair cut; when it started to go curly at the back and sides it was time.

Deciding he’d put the inevitable off long enough, he grabbed his nose and pushed it back in place with a painful click. He let out a long stream of obscenities as he applied the bandage, and, still cursing, pressed a bag of frozen peas (his grandfather, apparently, believed in being prepared: the freezer had been full of them) against his face.

He worked around the bag to pat his skin dry with one of his grandfather’s thick towels. His belly rumbled, but he ignored it: Thai suddenly didn’t sound as appetizing as it had hours ago, before he’d left his grandfather’s ridiculous Baroque nightmare of a brownstone and stumbled out onto the street and into an actual nightmare.

That wasn’t fair, Jason thought with a shake of his head. The old man’s place wasn’t that bad. It was just…ornate. And kinda creepy. If there was a single surface free of a grinning gargoyle or an extra, overwrought curlicue, Jason hadn’t been able to find it. Even the towels were over the top.

Jason absently rubbed the tattoo on his upper arm as he considered the bedroom he’d claimed for the duration of his stay here. It was the least histrionic of the brownstone’s six, but it was still way too much for Jason’s taste. The master suite had been out of the question: he wasn’t sure how his grandfather had been able to sleep a wink in there. It would’ve given Bram Stoker the willies.

He frowned and shook his head again. All these musings on his deceased grandfather’s choice of decor were really just avoidance. The last thing he wanted to think about was the weird mugging and the even weirder woman who’d come to his rescue…a rescue he hadn’t needed, he still stubbornly insisted.

With an impatient, oft-repeated gesture, he brushed a lock of black hair off his forehead and tried to clear his mind with a few deep, careful breaths. His swollen nose made it painful. He discarded the peas, centered himself, and began the soothing motions of his nightly Tai Chi routine.

He gave it up as no good after only ten minutes. He couldn’t hold the forms; he couldn’t get his breathing right; and his mind simply refused to focus. With a grumbled curse, he stripped out of his workout clothes and tugged on the shorts and t-shirt he wore as pajamas. He grabbed his laptop and the peas off the table and climbed up into the high bed. It was time for some serious Googling, he thought.

First things first: what could the vast reaches of the internet tell him about Guardians, and what exactly did they have to do with Jameson O’Connor, his mysterious and recently-deceased grandfather?
