THE TABOO OF MÉNAGE - A #GuestBlog by @Cassandra_Carr

The Taboo of Menage
by Cassandra Carr

Copyright (c) 123RF Stock Photos
One of the most common reactions I get when I mention I write menage books is eyebrows jumping into hairlines, followed by nervous laughter. I shrug it off because I know most people either don't understand menage relationships or they've been taught to believe it's wrong to be with more than person. That's fine--it's why my stories are fiction.

Polygamy is neither legal nor accepted in "polite society". Does it happen? Of course. If you were a part of a permanent, committed menage relationship, would you be upfront about it or would you try to hide it? I think that's hard for a lot of us to say, even if you're pretty open-minded about sex. One of the biggest needs humans have is for acceptance, and we naturally shy away from anything that will get us shunned by society. There are exceptions, but there always is, right?

So why do I write menage if it's a taboo subject and not one that's accepted by society? Because it's fantasy. What woman hasn't thought about two (or more!) hunky guys focused exclusively on her pleasure. You haven't? Liar. ;-)

My job as an erotic romance writer is to bring the fantasies women have about sex alive in a safe way. That's why I write menage.

What do you think about menage in real life? Do you know anyone living this lifestyle?

ALICE'S ALPHA - REVIEW & GUEST BLOG: "OH, THOSE MÉNAGE BOOKS!"

Oh, Those Ménage Books!
by Anna Gimble

When I was discussing my next project with the Liquid Silver Books acquisitions editor a few months back, she said, “You should write a shifter ménage.” She and I have gotten to be pretty good friends over the months I've written for LSB, so I listened to her and asked myself if I could do a credible job with multiple partners.

I started by reading a couple of shifter ménage books, just to sort of get my feet wet and get in the mood. After the second one, I was intrigued by the possibilities. Ménage arrangements offer a rich array of, ahem, shall we say, options.

My husband had been nagging me to write a story based out of Lon Chaney’s cabin in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Bear with me for a moment. Lon Chaney Sr. built the structure between 1929 and 1920, completing it right before he died. It’s substantial. Maybe 1200 square feet. I've hiked past it many times. It’s set on the North Fork of Big Pine Creek. Today, it’s about 3 miles from the trailhead, but in the 1930s, you could drive to within about a mile-and-a-half, which made hauling the big fieldstones on mules a little easier.

Okay, I told myself, I need shifters, a ménage, and Lon Chaney’s cabin. It seemed like fertile ground, so I sat down and started to write. The setting worked out fine and I had amazing male leads. My favorite kind of alphas with to-die-for bodies. Personality-wise, they’re hot and sensual, but also tender and compassionate. Though Jed is the alpha, Terin and Bron are awesome, too. And Alice was a perfect heroine. Independent as all get out and still a virgin at close to thirty. Oh, I should mention, the story takes place in 1936, which necessitated a bit of research to make sure I got the details right for that era.

Everything was working out really well until I got to writing the group sex scenes. Gulp. They’re way harder than one-on-one sex. There are a whole bunch of body parts when you've got three guys and one gal. It took me about three tries before I had something that felt natural. Two men would have been easier, but I’m stubborn. I’d written the book with three wolf shifter males and I was really reluctant to cut one of them.

Anyway, it all worked out. I’m happy with the result and the reviews so far have been positive. Plus, Alice is one happy heroine. She crows every time I visit with her about how amazing her life is. Snort! And why wouldn't it be? Three men dancing attendance on her must rock.

How about you readers? What do you love about ménage books? Why would you seek them out over, say, a shifter romance featuring a single hero and heroine?

"It’s 1936. Thirty-year-old Alice has almost given up finding a man. Between civil engineering and mountain climbing, her interests are so masculine she scares men away. A poor route choice lands her next to horror movie star Lon Chaney’s cabin deep in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. She’s wary when Jed, a strikingly handsome man, offers her shelter.

By the time she discovers he’s clan leader for a pack of wolf shifters, she’s in way too deep to back out. Her carefully tended wasteland of a heart cracks wide open and all her preconceived notions shatter. Snared by the mate bond, Alice discovers passion hot enough to change her forever. She’s just getting used to Jed when his lieutenants show up, and she discovers she’s mated to all three."  ~ From Goodreads

I liked how Alice’s Alpha was set in 1936, but that also kept my mind vary of could this happen, could that and not being 1930’s expert it did distract me a little. But, very little! Because the story is interesting, we get some back story while the wolf and bear reminisce, and we also get to know Jed and Alice separately very well before they are but together. I was expecting something with the whole Lon Chaney story line but he’s got nothing to do with the book ( although it's explained in the Guest Blog, why it's there ), and I’m not even sure why he’s in the blurb, to be honest?

The romance is hot of course, it starts with you getting a hint just hard it’s been on the boys to be mateless all these years, and then enter Alice whose sent drives Jed mad, though he hides it pretty well for the first few minutes. ;) Then its toe sucking and our heroine’s a goner. ;) Of course Jed and Alice had the main romance but eventually the other two wolves return to the cabin and all hell breaks loose, Alice wants nothing to do with any of them – and that creates great conflict! And that’s not all of it, in Ann Gimpel’s world humans are taught to believe all shifters are evil, kidnap babies and eat them kind of way - so Alice isn't exactly raving happy when the trio’s species comes up.

Alice’s Alpha is a great short story of wolf shifters, a tough cookie heroine, the irresistible mate bond and 1930’s - and it’s an awesome read, even with the little snags on the road.

You should know : The sex is pretty tame (but still hot!) for a foursome - in case that would have scared you away.

THE BITE OF MÉNAGE: WHY WE LOVE IT - GUEST BLOG (GIVEAWAY)

The Bite of Ménage: Why we love it
by Cari Quinn

Thanks so much to For The Love of Reading today for having me! Such a gorgeous site. I can tell I’m going to love exploring here! :) I hope you enjoy my post—and there are prizes too, so please keep reading!

Today I’m going to talk about menage and why it’s so popular. As a writer, I know I enjoy writing threesomes for several reasons. First, they’re hot. I mean, come on, what woman wouldn't love to have two gorgeous, alpha males catering to their every whim sexually? It’s a fantasy for a lot of women for a very good reason. Not only is the idea sexy, it also is such a challenge to write. Both men (or women, depending on your threesome) have to have their own distinct, recognizable personality quirks that reveal themselves in the bedroom too. Not only do you have to make sure all the body parts are doing what they’re supposed to, you also have to make sure it’s clear who is doing what and why. Let’s just say I totally understand those authors who whip out their Barbie dolls to make sure all the positions make sense! Though I’m working on getting a couple of real life research partners – *cough, cough* – ha ha, I wish!

Another reason I think menage is popular is the complex relationships that come into play when you have three people in a bed instead of two. There are such unique dynamics when you add another person that every sex act takes on a whole new dimension. I love going deeper emotionally as well as physically with my characters.

In Love Bites, the guys may be vampires, but trust me, Kellan and Lucas are also men through-and-through. And Sydney, their chosen lady for a night—or more—is very lucky to be the third spoke of their trio. Assuming she survives the pleasure from their attention…

Curious to find out more? Here’s Love Bites blurb and a short excerpt, then read on for a fun giveaway!

"Vampire Kellan Barstow is tired of watching his best friend Lucas Phillips pine after his one true mate. Though he’s jealous that Lucas found his before he found his own, he wants him to be happy and hopes to spur him on to make a move toward his chosen human, librarian Emily Yost. But Kellan’s sick of Lucas's moping and decides one thing will convince Luke he needs to act.

Sleeping with another woman.

Except when Kellan and Lucas sleep with Sydney, a woman Kellan has flirted with for weeks, things quickly spiral out of control. Because Sydney may be more than merely a woman, and Kellan’s feelings for her soon go way beyond desire. Before long, Kellan and Sydney and Emily and Lucas are caught in a dangerous web of lust and love. And this love may do more than bite—it might end them all. "

“Our car broke down.” Lucas motioned vaguely over his shoulder. “Over there. Engine overheated.”

“Don’t have Triple-A?”

“Nah.”

“What kind of car is it?”

“A Mercedes.”

Sydney cocked an eyebrow as Kellan released her and directed a murderous look at his companion. “Wow. Didn’t think those puppies broke down too often.”

“Bad luck.” Kellan smiled, flashing his teeth. “Until you came along, that is. So what do you say? Up for a ride?”

“Depends. Where you guys headed?”

“There’s only one place I want to be right now.” Kellan leaned forward and braced his hands on her car window. As his stomach muscles rippled underneath his wet T-shirt, her thoughts flatlined. “Inside you.”
She moistened her lips with the tip of her tongue. Her belly clenched when Kellan’s gaze openly followed the move. “Looks like it’s your lucky day, boys, because I love giving rides. But if we’re doing this, I insist on a hell of a lot more than just one.”

Kellan’s eyes never left hers. “Count on it.”

“You’re of age?” Lucas asked.

The phrasing struck her as odd, but she nodded. “Twenty-nine. Both of you?”

Kellan merely smiled, again showing off a mouthful of blinding white teeth much like Lucas’s. There was something almost feral about them, as if they were blades poised to strike. But rather than concern her, the thought only turned her on more.

“We’re above the age of consent, yes.”

“Then let’s go.” She hit the button to unlock her doors. They opened with a deafening click. “You,” she murmured to Kellan, “can sit up front with me.”

The story delivers so well what the blurb offers! Love Bites has all the best ingredients for a great Erotic Paranormal Romance, we have vampires, mates, danger, action and love! Quinn has written a nice menage with a twist of jealousy, skepticism and threat and it's been an enjoyable read!

First I thought there was a previous book in the series when it was revealed Lucas already had a mate in denial, but as the story moved forward we saw this was not the case and Lucas had lots to do with Emily later in the book - which did make him hooking up with Sydney cheating in my book. I tried to let that go but Sydney's added sluttiness didn't help it. In general I didn't like Sydney, I'm not if it were due to how she were written ( lightning fast mood changes, oh I don't care you have a mate let me suck your... and so on ). I did though really like Kellan, Lucas and Emily. I loved Emily's resistance to existence of vampires, Lucas's guilt and anger management issues and Kellan's determination to show Sydney what they could be.

The sex was extremely hot, and well written by Ms. Quinn, she knew how to make things hot both relationship-wise and in the bedroom/car/and-so-on. As much I didn't like Sydney I did enjoy both of the relationship, there was chemistry even if it was stranger in some places. And of course the added danger made things hotter, just say 'vampire defending their mate' and you know what I'm talking about. ;)

For protection, Tristan, Adam and Star engage in a sizzling ménage ritual. Join Star as she opens her heart and soul to love, and continues her journey into the magic."  ~ From Goodreads

There is so much going on. I should have read the first book before reading this. There were things I truly did enjoy about Into The Magic, the connection between Star and Adam was effortless, there was magic, enough action to keep it interesting and the added chemistry between Star, Adam and Tristan. And it's hot. Into the Magic is better read as a sequel so don't hop the line like I did and I'm sure you'll get much more from it.

Things didn't seem to go smoothly for Star she was on bumpy ride with magic, Adam, Tristan and lot of passion. She was a smart girl and even with all this going on she managed to keep it together. You got to love a guy who tries to stay away from a woman for her own good, you know how that ends right? ;) But then again there can be something so annoying about it, where you just wanna take hold of their shirt and shake them demanding to know if they were bumped on their head as kids.

Of course Vegas is always a character of its own as is the magic, so you won't be bored with Into The Magic.

The ding-dong of the doorbell put a halt to her primping. After shoving the makeup into a drawer, she went to the door.

Holy mother of… Star stood with her jaw open and her eyes wide. Tristan was hot. He was tall and had dark hair pulled into a ponytail. He wore a tight T-shirt that outlined a well-developed chest. His eyes were an unusual shade of silvery-grey and they focused directly on hers. Then he smiled, and her pulse sped up. A spark of heat ignited between her legs, which often happened when she was in close proximity to a delicious man, much to her discomfiture. This time, however, was different. A frisson of excitement tickled her spine and her scalp tingled. Tristan gave off a lot of power and she sensed it.

“May I come in?” he asked.

      “Oh, yes, of course, please.”

She stepped out of the way as he strode in. His presence seemed to light the room up, and this position offered her another fine view, one of his delicious backside, accentuated by tight jeans.

Another effect of her practicing magic, she could now detect colours around people—auras, as the New Age people called them. She’d first noticed this with Adam, on Porrima. When he was excited and happy, he radiated a smooth, warm orange and yellow, so vibrant she felt it caress her skin. Tristan exuded something else, something raw and sensual that made goose bumps pop on her arms. Dancing flames surrounded this man, and he gave off a mix of power, hunger, and something sly. The colours around him kept changing, like a chameleon on a rainbow.

He laughed. “So where were we?”
Slender fingers raked across her brow as he became completely entranced by her pretty oval face. “I guess after that outburst, I should apologize.”
“Why?” Wyatt asked.
“For Mitch and Trixie.”
“They aren't bothering me. Are they a distraction for you?”
“No,” she replied. “Then again, I’m used to the lifestyle.”
“Are you?” He leaned forward, totally intrigued. Now they were moving the conversation along in a direction he liked.
“Look around, Wyatt. Surely you don’t think I walk through this club with blinders on.”
“I've watched you when the lights are dim and the patrons are here. No, Kimberly, you don’t strike me as a woman who wears shades and only sees what she wants to see.”
“Pretending not to notice public sex acts borders the impossible when the club is open for business.”
“So you understand what’s transpiring out in your parking lot at this very minute.”
She shifted in her chair. There was a darker quality to her brown eyes then, but he only saw the richer shade difference for a moment. She immediately dipped her head and kept her gaze downcast.
Wyatt stroked his chin and studied her. She’d been trained properly, schooled in Domination and submission, and showed an outright sign of submissiveness then.
“Look at me,” he rasped. This woman could have him by the balls at the turn of a hand.
She tilted her head and focused on the window before returning her gaze to him. His entire body went rigid at her defiance. He swallowed once, thinking of how he’d love to test her, use his dominance to strengthen her role as a submissive woman.
Think, hell. Tests were among life’s greatest pleasures.
“What is this meeting about?”
“Look out the window, Kimberly.”
“I beg your pardon?”
“I want you to tell me what you see.”
She started to defy him. Defiance existed in her body language and facial expression.
“I want a vivid description. Tell me.”
Kimberly stared at his mouth as if she were totally enchanted by his lips. She acted as if the request proved too enticing to refuse, yet she didn't avert her gaze to the window again. Instead, her eyes grew heavy. Her stiff jaw loosened and her slender shoulders relaxed.
“Kimberly?” He reached across the table and took her hand in his. “It isn't as if we are strangers.”
She jerked then and stared at their clasped hands. He wondered how much she remembered of the night they’d danced together. It had been several weeks ago, but he still remembered the way her body had moved against his as the music set the pace for a thrashing tempo, a rhythm that had led many couples into the throes of public passion.
She’d had a few drinks. He’d watched her slam shot after shot and then, she’d made her way through the club, checking on her guests and observing—with lust in her eyes—as some of the couples performed openly for all to see.
“They’re fucking,” she said in a matter-of-fact voice.
“Are they?” His cock twitched in his jeans. They’d bounded over their first hurdle and he couldn't help but feel as if she’d opened the door to something more.
Directness was precisely what he needed from this woman. Hell, who was he fooling? He longed for more than forthcoming replies to his questions.
He stared at her mouth. God, she had such beautiful, full lips. He wondered if they were enhanced as she swiped her tongue over the shape of her upper lip. Then, because he couldn't help himself, he imagined her stretched around his size, her lips bowing in acceptance as he sank his cock deep inside her mouth.
Would she slap him if he reached over and…And before he could stop himself, he inched his hand closer to her face and dragged his thumb across her bottom lip.
A playful nip caught him off guard. She bit at the pad and drew the soft tip between her lips. Her wicked tongue slithered over his fingernail.
His breath hitched with the sensation. His body was erect. His nipples were as hard as flat discs. Mesmerized, God help him, he was totally entranced by this woman.
“How do you know they’re fucking?” he asked quietly. “You've only looked at me since I asked the question.”
As if he’d broken a hex or whatever spell had been cast, she jolted to an upright attention. She rubbed her lips together as if she were biding time and trying to think of something to say.
To his surprise, she looked at him dead-on again. “If Trixie had been in Mitch’s lap, it wouldn't have been a problem. The reason Ansley is pitching a fit is because they’re fucking. And apparently, they’re not even trying to hide the fact.”
“Does it bother you?”
“Because my sister’s lover is throwing it to her in the parking lot of a known kink club? Come on. Do you really think I’m a prude?”
“Are you?”
“No.”
“Can I test that?”
She released a sexy and quite throaty gasp. At the same time, a side door opened and closed. There was quick movement in his peripheral. Then he heard heavy footsteps.
“I don’t know,” she replied, grinning. “Can you?”

"It’s more than packages and Christmas candy for Nadia, when her two best male friends give her what she’s been wanting for a long time.

Roger and Jasper "accidentally" read Nadia’s diary and find out her secret desires! They believe they’re the perfect boyfriends for her and are more than willing to give her the Christmas gift of a lifetime.

Wait ‘til Christmas when Nadia sees what’s under the tree!"  ~ From Amazon

I rarely think of erotic ménage romance as sweet - but Under The Tree sure was! The plot is cute, two best friend "plotting" to get the girl they want, their best friend. What made it so cute was that she didn't think they were serious, so the 'whatcha doings' were quite amusing.

The romance was sweet, you could tell the boys really liked her, wanted her and wanted to be with her, wanted to fall in love. Nadia putting the breaks on on things was funny and added to the sexual tension very nicely. When the boys were around she was shy, but when they left she gave into all the naughty thoughts.

Of course a romance like this has to end happily, and it did, like four times. ;)

Under The Tree is 4/4 of The More The Merrier: Menage Holiday Collection!
