Love and Music in Texas / Book 1 / Nikki Lynn Barrett             Genre: contemporary romance/ suspense elements

"In small Texas towns, strangers come and go...

Left in a Stetson hat, on the steps of the local bed and breakfast, Avery Callimer came into the world on a wing and a prayer. Raised by loving adoptive parents, she’s never lacked for love ... only the knowledge of her past.

By day she works at the inn, but by night ... Avery comes alive as lead singer in a band. Life was good ... stable, until new guests blew into town.

Some strangers come with secrets and lies.

Lucas Bennett is one such stranger. Drifting from one mess to another has left him jaded. Doesn't matter the dramas are never his doing. Giving it one last shot to make a fresh start lands him Harmony’s Echo, Texas and smack dab in front of the tantalizing Avery.

Despite his best efforts to ignore the burn Avery’s ignited within, he’s intent to keep his distance. Secrets have followed him. Secrets he doesn’t want Avery to know.

Each time they’re near the other, things heat up like a brushfire on a dry Texas prairie.

But maybe, after the dust settles and the smoke clears, love can bloom with a fresh start."

Genre: contemporary romance/ suspense elements

"Welcome back to Harmony's Echo, Texas.....

Melody Roland is on the run from the one person she trusted completely. One who hid a dark past she could never have imagined. When a pregnant woman on the bus she's fleeing on goes into labor, Melody rushes to her aide. Now she finds herself stranded in a tiny remote town just off the highway, with no way to her original destination.

She's alone, on edge, and unsure who to trust. Her instincts scream to get far away and fast. But how and where?

Jameson Grant struggles through the roughest year of his life. Suffering from the loss of his father, one grief stricken night, he made a mistake. One which cost him the only woman he's ever loved. Each lonely day he's faced with the constant reminders of how quick things can change. Throwing himself into the one thing he has left, his music, helps dull the pain he fights to keep hidden. His last salvation begins to crumble as things spiral out of control and he has no choice but to face the 'music' of his past.

The last thing he needs or wants in his life is a woman with more trouble on her heels than the best of country music lyrics. But Melody sings a sirens call within him that can't be ignored.

Jameson and Melody bond in ways stronger than either could have imagined, but one dangerous person from her past may threaten it all...

If she doesn't flee before he can convince her to stay, and that some love songs last an eternity."

Country Music in Romance
by Nikki Lynn Barrett

Thank you so much, firstly, for having me here on your blog today! I appreciate the opportunity to share my thoughts with you and your readers.

I have to say, I'm loving the current craze in romance with music themes. I devour them. I love music, just as I do with books, so to have a combination of both is perfect in my eyes. As a writer, and a singer, I thought combining my two loves had to be done. So, I created the Love and Music In Texas Series.

I listen to a wide variety of music, but my heart will always be with country. Just as I love to read ( and write ) various genres, but my heart is in romance.   I think having country music in romance is a great blend.  For me, country music brings out the emotions.  There's party songs, there's fun, and then there's those ballads that seem to wring out the heartache or some kind of strong feeling.  I also find that same kind of feeling in romance novels. I feel the emotions.

Readers will find with the Love and Music in Texas series a combination of emotions. Readers might laugh, cry, get angry, and so much more with the characters in the story.  The books center around a small Texas town band, and each member will get their own story.  While the characters are working their way toward a music career, they also have real life to deal with as well. Music has been their salvation to get them through.  The first book, Baby Stetson, features Avery Callimer. She's the lead singer of the band, and she's got plenty of driven emotions to keep her singing and writing songs. See, Avery doesn't know her past. She was left abandoned in a small Texas town and even though she's surrounded by love, the struggles with not knowing crucial facts about her life. So she writes her feelings into songs and pours those emotions out on stage.  No matter what she's dealing with in life, she has music to fall back on and lift her spirits.

Book 2 of the series focuses on Jameson Grant, the lead guitarist and Avery's life long best friend. Music helps him cope with his own troubles, and music also helps him bond with the newcomer in town, Melody. Despite the hell that these two go through, writing a song together brings them closer than either of them ever imagined. Jameson uses music to bring Melody out of her shell.

I think music is full of romance. I love the way a song can make you feel. With my own lyrics that I write (country) I pour out every emotion that I may be feeling at the time.

Do you have a favorite romance ( book, or even movie ) that mixes a bit of country music in it?  I'm always on the lookout for other books that have a country music theme in them.  So if you have any recommendations, I'd love to hear them!

Niina : I'll answer that right away! I love Nashville ( Panettieri and Britton ) and Country  Strong ( Paltrow) and The Nashville Nights Series by Cheryl Douglas really has a lover in me.

I'm rushing to work this morning so I'll keep this short - short and sweet. ;) Even with the of the dialogue with Avery and her adoptive parents was unrealistic it didn't bother me too bad, and even with her premonitions of bad things to come didn't bother me that badly - why? Because I love country music and I forgive a lot for it. ;)

After I got over those two things I really enjoyed the story, I liked Avery's spirit even though she was bit bitchy at times, and she knew it too. ;) Her story of being adopted and abandoned had left a mark on her and her displeasure to make it in the Country  music field to stay with her adopted parent didn't make sense to Lucas.

Let's talk about Lucas, yum, sure he's bit of a wild card, not the most stable companion for Avery, but something clicks there that cannot be denied. Of course his smooth charm and good lucks can get any girl bit dumbfounded. ;)

I really enjoyed Baby Stetson, even with the few quirks - hope you enjoy it too and best of luck on the Giveaway! I kinda really wanna re-do the covers, but hey that's just the Cover Artist in me. ;)
