Excerpt:  Prelude & 1st Chapter

Nathan is the pastor of the small town of Bandit Creek, his dreams have been haunted by demonic sights and eerie crows until one day as he drives back into town the crows surround him and attach him, that and seeing things that aren’t there shock him, his estranged mother who has the ability to see the other world has gone missing.

The demon circles the little town and Nathan, driving fear in to the townspeople, and with Nathan’s mother the only women who could help make sense of the odd occurrences is gone, Nathan has to face his mysterious past and the current threat alone.

This novella is plenty creepy! Set in a small town you get the perfect feeling of isolation, and as past begins to unravel you get hooked on knowing how is this going to end? What will happen to Nathan, his mother and the demon?

I liked Nathan’s character, he was calm, though clearly spooked which cave him an eerie quality, I most enjoyed the demon, there is something so good about a well creepy bad guy, and Max was just that.

This is for you if you enjoy suspense and evil demons lurking in the shadows of a small town…

Rating :

Niina : Welcome to For The Love of Reading, Steena. Glad to have you come and visit!

Steena Holmes : Hi Niina - thanks so much for having me :)

Niina : Can you tell us why you decided to write Devil Unknown an eerie suspense novella, and have you written suspense before?

Steena :  This is my first time writing anything that wasn’t women’s fiction or romance! It was very ... exciting and scary all at the same time.

Niina : What part did you most enjoyed writing and why?

Steena : I loved finding out about the secrets. Everyone has them, but when the secrets are so life changing...it was exciting to write.

Niina : What’s the appeal of writing evil characters, such as the Demon?

Steena : Did you like Morax? I have to admit he fascinates me as a character. There’s so much more to him than I thought. He’s a fallen angel - but does that mean he’s evil or is there still some good in him?

Niina : What's the best part about being an author? And what’s the worst?

Steena : The best? Knowing that there is something that I can do and do it well. Knowing that this is ‘my’ thing. Like knowing the secret recipe to the best banana bread you’ve ever tasted ... it’s yours!  The worst? The time it takes to write a story - there are days where I struggle to write 500 words. With a full time job and 3 kids - every spare minute I have is spent in writing and when I only write 500 words ... sometimes it feels like it will take forever to complete a story.

Niina : How do you decide what you want to write about?

Steena : I wait for an idea or a thought that makes me excited. Then I’ll jot it down and see where it takes me.

Niina : What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?

Steena : Needing a bowl full of chocolate covered almonds beside me and a pot of coffee on. I need chocolate and coffee before I can write.

Niina : Now to more personal questions! Would you rather meet real vampires or demons?

Steena : Well, if the vampire is hot and sexy ....

Niina : Can you share with us the closest three books you have on your bookshelf?

Steena : Hmmm...Sarah’s Key, The Harem and No Time To Wave Goodbye. An odd mixture I know.

Niina : Your current Top 5 dangerous bad boys in literature? And why?

Steena : Zane from Succumbi Like it Hot, Barrons from Shadow Fever - OMG, have you read that series from Karen Marie Moning? Do I have to list 5 or can we just dwell on Barrons for a bit???

Niina : I you could only read 5 books for the rest of your life what would they be, and why?

Steena : You make this so difficult. I’m gonna say the Fever series from Karen Marie Moning (just finished the latest one and I’m still in love with these characters).

Niina : What do you like to do when you are not writing?

Steena : Not writing ... that’s tough. I love to bake. I’m a chocoholic :) I also enjoy reading. I have 3 girls so spending time with them is important to me too.

Niina : Now before we finish here are some Quick fire Question:
