I really wanted to like Spring to Summer, the blurb was beautiful and the stories seemed interesting at first glance. So why didn't I like it? Was it the writing? No, the writing was beautiful, very deep and introverted and emotional. Was it the plots? No. The plots had substance and depth of emotion and passion.

You are asking, so why then? It simply wasn't for me. I expected four erotic novellas - now ladies I read a lot of erotic romances and absolutely love'm - and what I got was not what I expected. This book was more Anaïs Nin style than the stories I'm use to of reading these days ( I have a read my fair share of her erotic novellas, and that is why I can appreciate Baylee's writing ). I expected hot steamy "can't-help-myself" kinda sexy love affairs and I got poets and depth.

So you see it wasn't bad, but it's wasn't for me. The lovers of poems and deeper contemporary literature will love this I'm sure! Me? I'm bit more smut about my erotica. ;) Okay, so the rating below is based on where the book fits with my current reading habits and the style of this blog. Was I reviewing this few years back the rating might be completely different (4.5), but so would the blog too.

Thanks Niina for taking the time to read and review. To have my writing compared to Anaîs Nin is an honor.

I truly appreciate your honesty.

It's good to be honest when reviewing. I agree that eden's writing is beautiful, but I can imagine that we all have different tastes when it comes to books. If it's not for you, it's not.

Interesting review, prior to the book being published, i had a chance to sit down with Eden. She had mentioned a stylistic transition in her writing...perhaps your review is a sign that... as a reader you are seeing that maturity. Just a thought.
cheers

Not a bad thought at all. :)
Everyone will have different tastes; your thoughts in this are definitely properly drawn out.

Personally, I'm not into trashy novels, and would normally never read one. However, after reading your review, I might have to make an exception. Good review. If Eden is writing on that level, I'm impressed!

Hope you give it a go. :)
Oh, I plan to! I have high respect for Eden. :-)
Sounds like a beautifully written novel! Goes to show how ratings work these days. A perfectly written book could get 1 star and a poorly written one could get 5 stars--it's all about the readers tastes. in the end, ratings reflect the reader more than the book. Good thing to know. I liked your review and thought you expressed how you feel about the book nicely.

Thank you Jessica, and also a very good point. I guess I would recommend finding a blogger with similar taste and taking them up on their recommendations. For example if a YA blogger damns "Gone with the wind", as a romance reader you might love it so it's always good to find a source that matches your interests. :)
