BOOK SPOTLIGHT - CONFESSIONS OF A SEX DEMON

Title: Confessions of a Sex Demon
Author: Jaye Shields
Buy: Beachwalk Press / Coming Sep. 17th

"Zahra proves that sex demons do it better as she goes from captive to captivator.

Sex Demon Zahra Aniron is a closet romantic. Too bad she spends her time having hot, kinky sex with paying strangers. But she needs the money to pay off her sister's debt to wizard thugs. There could be worse things than getting paid for pleasure, especially since a sex demon needs climax to survive.

As a blacksmith, Lennox Aegros puts his fury to good use pounding steel into swords. When he arrives at a new town, his real cause for being there isn't to sell weaponry, it's for revenge. When he finds the succubus he's been searching for, her beauty means he can mix business with pleasure. But the joke's on Lennox, because as he succeeds in torturing his victim by repeatedly bringing her to the brink of orgasm and then denying her the release that she so desperately needs, he realizes that Zahra's slow demise means the breaking of a heart he didn't think he had."

Content Warning: strong language, graphic sex, light BDSM scenes

"Chase Paladin avoids commitment like a patch of stinging nettles. He's seen how love can trample a man, and he doesn't plan to get hitched—ever. But when Honor Jackson walks into his life, hell-bent on keeping her distance, she turns his convictions inside out.

One look at the too-handsome cowboy with laughing green eyes and a killer smile, and Honor knows he's nothing but trouble. She's come to Redemption, Texas to help an old friend, not to let another man charm her into certain heartache. But every time she turns around, Chase is there, and the closer they get, the more she fears he'll break her heart. So when anonymous threats make it clear that someone in Redemption wants her gone, Honor is ready to oblige. Only now Chase isn’t certain he can live without her.

Will two wary hearts take a chance on love before it's too late?" ~From Goodreads

Nothing But Trouble was one yummy read of the sweet romance kind! The only reason this wonderful, moving, sensual and so well written romance is getting 4.5 stars is the bedroom scene halfway through. As much as I loved everything else in the book, this was dud for me. It went from stroking to act to done in few lines without the much needed details of what pieces of puzzle fit together - and how great that is! This was surprising enough that I had to backpedal a page to see if I missed one. That said, it didn't take a lot away from the story, which I truly did find worth reading and recommending!

Chase was the epitome of the swings and flings but no rings kinda guy. Drop dead gorgeous cowboy who promises to break your heart with a sexy smile on his lips. Not someone you'd wanna end up with because one roll in the hay can easily turn to love with a guy like Chase - which is why Honor swear to stay clear. Having had her heart broken and her trust stolen Honor is keeping a way from Chase, too bad that Chase is determined to see her, making her resolve crack one smile at a time. Reading Honor convinced me to stay away from Chase, but reading Chase made me wanna give him a chance - well written Ms. Gallant!

Oh the romance! I loved it! I loved Honor's tough outer shell, Chase's determined seduction and the will they-won't they, they had going on. I loved the slow getting to know each other spiced with many wonderfully sexy little moments of stolen looks and appreciations of ones assets when they think no ones watching. ;) How can you resist a romance where the hero is not so subtle and determined like hell to get the heroine to bed...? Yeah you can't because that, ladies, is Hot!

"When Goldie Lockwood, a half breed Were-Bear with no powers, runs away from her clan the last thing she expects to run into is the trio of Were-Bear studs of her erotic dreams. It’s mating season and she isn’t even in the running, being a dud DNA-wise.

But when they touch her she can’t resist making them her harem. Just who seduces who in this twisted tale? And will Goldilocks find the Were-Bear mate that’s just right?" ~ From Goodreads

One hot re-telling of Goldilocks and the Three Bears! I've read one before this and on the heat level this sure kicks ass. The plot in Goldie and The Three Bears is a simple one of Honey ( nicknamed  Goldie ) escaping a burglar to finding herself in three bear cabin in were-bear mating season ( I can't even think were-bear with a straight face, my mind immediately jumps to Carebears and that's just... wrong ;) ), with the weres and her clan in an unsteady peace.

So three were-bears and Goldie and one of them fits just right, naughty, yeah well the whole book was so sue me! ;) I liked Cruz dominating animalistic were side ( includes spanking and cuffs ) and his jealous streak towards Goldie and her try outs with the other two bears. The other two bear were hot in there own right but got much less play time. ;) The story was a fun romp in the woods with some wicked hot shifter action for our Goldielocks, but like all fairy tales this one ends well too but not before something goes horribly wrong.

Honey's romance with Cruz is the driving force of the story even with her werebear harem antics with Tyson and Lane, the threat on her life and the secrets kept from her. Goldie and The Three Bears was entertaining, fun, sexy hot erotic romance for the lovers of shifters and to those who don't mind convenient magic ( which I am not but it didn't bother too much ). ;)

Natalia and Jared circle each other warily, feeling the pull of sensual heat. But when the Blizzard of 1889 hits, the sexual sparks may not be enough to keep them warm...or alive."
~From Goodreads

Warning: Contains a sex-starved widow and a saddled-hardened Pinkerton agent who set the sheets afire.

Okay just look at that cover! How can anyone say no to that? I sure didn't. ;) I have a soft spot for western romance and historical romance and the marriage of two. So Taming Talia seemed like a great fit for me. The story was simple but it had a lot going on through out the book, the seduction, the intrigue, the storm, the danger... nothing was missing! Where this novel was great in having everything, there was something missing for me, I can't quite but my finger on it.

This story was pretty much just about Natalie and Jared stuck together in a storm of all storms and that created all kinds of nice friction and tension between the two. Natalie's firecracker personality and Jared's cool calculative surface were a great match - and more than once I found myself telling Jared to stop being so collected and see he was falling for her.

The romance was hot, no doubt about it, these two thoroughly enjoyed their spouts in bed and their bickering between bed times - this was entertaining for me as well as I like a bit of battle of wits in my romances. There was plenty of sexual tension and stolen glances and 1889 proper behavior covers cracking which made this romance a very passionate one even outside the bedroom.

Niina : Welcome to For The Love of Reading,  Ms. Ryan, I’m glad you could make it!

Marie-Nicole Ryan : Thanks so much for having me, Niina.

Niina : Let’s get started! Can you tell my readers here 4 fun unknown facts about you so we can break the ice?

Marie-Nicole :  That's assuming I can think of any fun facts. Hmm.
1. I used to be addicted to a USA cable TV show called La Femme Nikita
2.  I used to write LFN fan fiction, and it's still out there for all the world to see...if one knew where to look.
3.  I'm addicted to Netflix and British TV shows, especially the mysteries and period dramas.
4.  My first hero was a cowboy, Roy Rogers!

Niina : Tell us little about your book Taming Talia, what’s it about?

Marie-Nicole : It's about a sex-starved widow, Talia, and Jared, a saddle-hardened Pinkerton agent who was hired by her late husband's family to prove she had him murdered. It's set in 1889 in the NE New Mexico Territory, and they're marooned together by the blizzard of 1889 (real event).

Niina : How do you write, chapter here and there or follow from beginning to an end?

Marie-Nicole :  Most of the time I write from beginning to end, but if a future scene idea hits me, I'll write it and hold on to it until it works into the story. I used to do that kind of thing more often, but less now.

Niina : Yep, can't let ideas escape. ;) What chapter did you most enjoye writing and why?

Marie-Nicole : I always love writing the first chapter and the last of each book. The first because it's exciting to start a new book, and the last because my characters get their HEA. For Taming Talia, one of my favorite chapters was their first love scene. Why? Because Talia, the heroine, had escaped an icy cold death and woke up naked in the arms of the hero Jared. Who wouldn't want to wake up like that?

Niina : Who wouldn't indeed! How did the cover come about and what is your opinion of it?

Marie-Nicole : First of all, I love it. Samhain Publishing has a wonderful staff of cover artists, and I asked for the same artist who did the cover for Seducing the Sheriff, the first book in the Loving the Lawman series, so that the series would have a look of continuity. And I love the dead sexy cowboy on the cover. Yum!

Niina : Me too! ;) So, why did you pick sexy historical western genre?

Marie-Nicole : I would have to say that HBO's Deadwood series had a lot to do with that choice. I loved the grittiness and earthiness of the series. I couldn't hope to duplicate the superb writing, but I certainly had fun with those characters. I also write spicy contemporary romantic suspense, but my editor wanted something that would fit more into the "red hots" category.

Niina : Can you tell us five fun/quirky things about  the hero  that we didn't learn from the book?

Marie-Nicole : Difficult question, Niina. *scratching my head* Most of what I learned about Jared I learned while writing his story. I don't always do a very detailed backstory. I like bits and pieces of it to come to me as I write.
I will tell you that he was a secondary character in Seducing the Sheriff, and I found him so compelling that he almost took over the story. Some of his fun scenes parts never saw print because my critique partner said I either had to make him the hero, take him, out or make it a menage a trois. Being stubborn, I downplayed Jared's interaction with the heroine of that story and allowed Cordero, the real hero, to remain the hero, because he deserved it, but I just couldn't take Jared out entirely because I was already in love with him. LOL Needless to say, Jared deserved his own story, thus, Taming Talia, and a HEA as well.

Niina :  Now to more personal questions! What’s the sexiest article of clothing on a guy?

Marie-Nicole : Low riding jeans or a tux. I like a man who can get his hands dirty, but cleans up well.

Niina : What’s the biggest turn on in a guy, fictional or real life?

Marie-Nicole : First of all, he has to be breathing. After that, nice eyes, a wide smile, and a sense of humor. He must love dogs.

Niina : Who is your current book boyfriend?

Marie-Nicole : US Marshal Sam Dunaway. His wife ran off with his life savings, then died in a hotel fire. Or did she?

Niina : LOL! Would you rather meet real vampires or werewolves?

Marie-Nicole : Neither! However, if I have to choose, I would rather meet a werewolf of the Alcide Herveaux variety. If I had to pick one vampire it would be Mick St. John from Moonlight. CBS was so stupid to cancel that show.

Niina : Agreed! What is your favorite guilty pleasure?

Marie-Nicole :  General Hospital. I'm a longtime ABC soaps fan, but since they discontinued All My Children and One Live to Live, I refuse to get hooked on any remaining shows. Once GH is gone, that's it for me.

Niina : Before we finish, here are some Quick Fire Questions:

Pick-up or Mini-van? None
Boots or Heels?   None
Cocktails or Shots? Cocktail--margarita
M&Ms: With or Without Peanuts?  With
Date: Going to Park or Going to Movies? Movies
Jewels or Chocolates? Chocolate (but it was a difficult decision)
Men: Alpha-male or Submissive? Alpha-ish
Men: Clean Shaven or Stubble? Clean shaven
Men: Bad boys or Good guys? Good guys who used to be Bad Boys.
Tattoos or Piercings on a guy? Tatts
Brunettes or Blonds? Brunettes
Romance: Vampires or werewolves? None, exceptions noted above
Romance: Fallen Angels or Sexy Demons? None
Romance: Cops or Cowboys? Both
Time-Travel or Sci-fi? Time-travel
Romance or Erotica/Erotic Romance? Romance

Niina : Thanks for visiting the For The Love of Reading,  Marie-Nicole! Any news would you like to share with your readers, or websites they can check out?

Marie-Nicole : Thanks again for having me. I'm hard at work on book three for this series, Mastering the Marshal. Oh--and Taming Talia releases today! It's available at all the usual online places.

Ricardo’s not a man to be cuckolded or left in the dark. Is his wife having an affair with El Capitan, the masked savior? If so…they will both pay." ~From Goodreads

Maiden Behind The Mask was bit of a slow starter, but when it got going it was great. Romance genre has been in the need of a spicy female-Zorro story for sure! Chevrestt has written a well rounded novella with a sassy strong lead and a gorgeous man to back her up - and not forgetting few kicks and giggles.

Catalina was fun to read, she had the headstrong heroine down to a T, in a time when women didn't have the luxury of being powerful on their own terms. Ricardo Garcia was a nice balance to her, a hot guy with a strong head and a cute butt and one big jealous streak - he was a compliment to Catalina, she needed someone who was charming, sexy and just as strong willed as her.

The romance was almost to the sweet end but not quite, we had the action, the adventure and sword play in the main role, but there was a nice amount of sexual tension to keep Catalina and Garcia on their toes so to speak. A chance encounter forced them to marry, both believing it was going to be loveless marriage but it's a miracle what few weeks in bed does to suspicions like that. ;)

She tore her gaze away from the horse and said firmly. "Cinco pesos. And only because this caballa has fire, not because of your terms. Selena, pay him."
Selena's hand shook, but the pesos were transferred to the dirty palm. The man laughed with glee, the crowd dispersed, and Catalina was left with a dirty, starving horse.
"We'll get you fed and cleaned up," she promised the horse, patting its neck. A cloud of dirt rose in the air, and Catalina struggled not to cough. "I shall call you La Reina, because once in my establo, I shall treat you like a queen. Your body may be beaten, but your spirit is not broke."
"Catalina?" Her maid's voice tentative as it interrupted her quiet chattering. "Whatever possessed you--"
"Fetch me a mozo," Catalina interrupted her. "Take the remaining pesos and fetch me a groom. La Reina is going to her castle." She wasn't offering more explanations than that. She didn't owe anyone an explanation. She'd done what was right.
As her maid turned to comply, heading toward the livery, a loud pffffht rendered the air. Catalina stared at the mare in surprise, aghast.
Selena froze and swung around to admonish her charge. "Senorita! Your behavior has been questionable enough this day. Mind yourself." She shook her head and her finger both before turning back the task at hand.
Catalina heard her muttering as she sashayed away. She was too surprised and too tired to defend herself, but the breeze picked up, and a waft of foul air assaulted her. Catalina immediately tugged a delicate, lace handkerchief from her sleeve and placed it over her nose as she glared at the horse.
La Reina snorted and pawed the ground. Catalina could swear the horse was laughing at her. She merely shook her head. "Dios mio, and you let me take the blame for that?"
           Pffffhht. Pfffht.
La Reina whinnied and bared her teeth as though she was smiling.

"Fed up after living with her father and four brothers, Samantha moves out on her own.

Fueled by her built-up passions and new-found freedom, Samantha samples the BDSM waters that Max offers, and tests his limits." ~From Goodreads

If you are squeamish about little bit of spanking and french maid's uniforms turn away now. A Super Spanking was a short, 25 page, erotic romance. The cover has a erotica feel to it, not so much a romance one so don't be fooled, this short story has a story.

Sam, sick of her brothers moves out only to meet a handsome, though tough, apartment manager who thinks the perfect incentive for her to clean is a spanking - which she finds herself fond of. The BDMS of this book really doesn't go further than spanking and some role play, so it is really light in case you were worried.

As a short story A Super Spanking tells the pre-story and has some hot sex for sure, but then it leaves the reader as the relationship begins to blossom with Samantha and Max - who knows how far they end up taking their little romance. And that's sort of a perfect ending for a short story like this.
