Niina : Welcome to For The Love of Reading, Emily, I’m glad you could make it!
Emily Cale : Thanks so much for having me!
Niina : Let’s get started! Can you tell my readers here 4 fun unknown facts about you so we can break the ice?
Emily : Unknown, huh? Well, for starters, I have a serious addiction to coffee that probably borders on unhealthy. I've been building up my travel resume for some time and have visited 5 continents at this point. I've got South America and Antarctica left and hope to get them in before I die. I named both my brother and first dog after characters on Sesame Street. Finally, I own way too many books and they currently take up an entire room.
Niina : Tell us something about your book “Getting Ahead” that we wouldn’t know just by reading the blurb?
Emily : The book is really about finding someone who can make you happy and not hold you back from achieving your goals.
Niina : So spill, why cowboys and rodeo? ;)
Emily: I grew up around cowboys and rodeo, but didn't appreciate them until I moved away. Now I find myself longing for the environment. Since I can't go back physically, I do it through my writing.
Niina : What character did you most enjoyed writing and why?
Emily : Amber is super fun and sassy. She is a bit rough around the edges and gives Colt a lot of trouble. I loved everything that came out of her mouth when I was writing.
Niina : What makes a hero sexy?
Emily : I love a hero who is confident and is willing to woo the heroine. That said, it doesn't hurt when they're good looking and masculine.
Niina : What characteristics do all your heroes/heroines have in common in your novels?
Emily : Wow, that's a hard one. I think what they all have in common is that they feature people who are looking to find love and they discover all the wonderful things it brings with it.
Niina : Before we get personal - any big projects for 2012?
Emily : I have several projects on the list for this year. I've got a sexy short that I've written with my friend Angela S. Stone titled Goalie Interference that releases later this month and a sweet romance under my pen name Maggie Greene that comes out in May. Hopefully I'll have some others as well.
Niina : Now to more personal questions! What’s the biggest turn on in a guy, fictional or real life?
Emily : Intelligence. I need someone I can talk to and argue with.
Niina : Your Top 3 dangerous fictional bad boys, and why them?
Emily : This is hard, I usually go for the silent types. Don't laugh, but I grew up watching Happy Days reruns. I think Fonzie was the first bad boy I ever saw and I still love him. Next up would have to be Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I didn't appreciate him when I first saw it, but when I rewatch I love him. I guess my last choice would be Jess from Gilmore Girls. I loved that show, especially when he was on.
Niina : What’s the sexiest article of clothing on a guy?
Emily : Why do they have to wear clothes? Okay, I guess I'll go with a pair of nicely fitted jeans.
Niina : What is your favorite guilty pleasure?
Emily : Chocolate and wine. I am guilty of rewarding myself and making myself feel better with both of these. Wine when I can and chocolate when I still need my wits.
Niina : What is your signature dish?
Emily : I don't cook. That's my husband's job around the house. I vote instead for baking. My new signature dish seems to be Cherry Coke cupcakes with rum whipped cream frosting.
Niina : What do you think makes a damn good story?
Emily : Characters you fall in love with and can't wait to see find their happy ending.
